Unsworth Vineyards Pinot Noir Review

Here at Luxury BC, we often like to spend our weekends relaxing and enjoying elaborate home-made meals with delicious wine. This led us to make yet another trip to The Victoria Public Market at The Hudson, and this time we noticed a new addition to the great list of vendors already there.

unsworthI thought this wine would be a great way to kick off the new wine series we’ll be launching here on the site. Not only will we be tasting fine local wines ourselves, but we’ll also be providing a bottle to friends or featured guests to not only enjoy, but to provide an additional viewpoint on the drink as well. We’re by no means professional wine critics, but we’ve certainly got enough of a handle on this province’s great local wine scene to point you in the right direction when you’re shopping for your next bottle.

This weekend’s wine is Unsworth Vineyards’ 2012 Pinot Noir. Unsworth Vineyards are located in Mill Bay here on Vancouver Island. We came across their new booth at the Victoria Public Market, where they were offering public tastings for a number of their wines. We ultimately ended up picking the Pinot Noir to go with our weekend meal, as it’s been a favourite of mine for quite some time.

This wine has been earning rave reviews and recently won the Judge’s Choice at the 2014 World Wine Awards of Canada. It was an easy choice to make and at ~$24 a bottle, it is a great addition to a meal involving savoury local sausages and deep red sauce.

What we really love about this wine is that although it’s a deep red wine, it tastes incredibly fruity and light but also boasts a familiar touch of warmth. The finish on the Pinot Noir is incredibly smooth and leaves a sweet taste in your mouth. This Pinot Noir instantly brings me feelings of summertime, from the first sniff to the last sip.

The Pinot Noir pairs well with just about anything, but we decided to try our hand at making home-made pasta filled with herb & garlic ruckles cheese from Salt Spring Island Cheese. We topped our home-made pasta with a tomato sauce with Italian pork sausage from Ravenstone Farm. Though our first attempts were mediocre at best, the final product was absolutely delicious!
