King George VI and Queen Elizabeth In Victoria

Here is a truly incredible piece of history caught on film: King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in Victoria, circa May 1939. Filmed just months before the outbreak of World War II, this one-of-a-kind film shows the young royal couple pulling up in a convertible and going on one of their famous “walkabouts” in front of rows of smartly uniformed (and kilted) men. Also included is footage of the Royal Suite where the monarchs stayed during their trip, which appears to be an exceptionally nice room – especially for 1930s Victoria! This film comes from the BC Archives, where many other clips of BC’s history can be found.
