Spirit Bay Development Selling Now

Imagine settling down in a brand new luxury resort town onĀ Vancouver Island’s pristine Beecher Bay. The seaside atmosphere means epic ocean views and clean, fresh air. The waters are blue and teeming with life, from majestic orcas to tasty salmon. The town itself has been designed from the start with sustainability in mind, making it a world leader in environmental living. Does that all sound too good to be true? Fortunately, it’s not – and the upcoming community of Spirit Bay promises to deliver all of those features and more!

As a collaborative development between the Scia-new First Nation and the Trust for Sustainable Development, Spirit Bay is ultimately envisioned to have between 500 and 800 residential units consisting of what the developers call “woodland cottage style homes” just outside Sooke. The emphasis on pastoral descriptions isn’t just a marketing decision, however, but a genuine effort on the part of the developers to create a community where ecological sustainability is a daily fact of life. Chief Russ Chipps emphasizes this need for sustainability, stating that “We are working within the traditional values of the First Nations people” – and those ecological values are undoubtedly what drew the famed Trust for Sustainable Development into the project.

Prices for homes in Spirit Bay are expected to start at a modest $289,000 and rise all the way up to the milli0n-dollar mark for the most luxurious, high-end properties in the development. Home-owners will have a 99-year lease on the land, while the Scia-new First Nation will retain a 51% ownership stake in the development project as a whole. The project will start off with a commercial area boastingĀ a small grocery store and gas station, with even more commercial projects – including a traditional carvers’ school and a proposed medical centre – possibly being added later in the 10-year development process.

These are exciting times both for the Scia-new First Nation as well as for anybody who’s always dreamed of living in an idyllic waterfront community. If you’d like to learn more about Spirit Bay, you can visit them at SpiritBay.ca or at facebook.com/SpiritBayCommunity.
