LURE Restaurant Is a #YYJ Must

Just before the holidays I had the pleasure of getting a tour of the Delta Ocean Pointe here in Victoria, in which I took at look at their stunning penthouse suite. After a couple hours of creating content for an upcoming post on that, my photographer and I decided to catch lunch in-house at LURE. This definitely wasn’t my first experience here, as I’m practically a neighbour and find myself here with my girlfriend a couple times a month.

So, what exactly makes this one my most favourite restaurants in Victoria? Well, the food is locally-sourced and downright delicious, plus they have the best view in the city hands-down; LURE overlooks the inner harbour with the Empress in view while the seaplanes come and go. There isn’t a restaurant or lounge on this side of the harbour that boasts this view, and it’s a real winner.

This time I had my Island photographer Melissa Chhor with me, and we couldn’t pass up taking shots of our beautiful lunches. We also noticed the interior decor as well, which was recently completely redone. My favourite aspect of the interior design is the unique tables they’ve got just next to the bar; grab a seat at one of these if you can.

The food at LURE has always been, for me, quite the pleasurable experience with all credit going to Chef Dan Bain and his team. The menu is very West Coast, with a lot of locally-sourced ingredients that really make their dishes shine. While this feature isn’t anything new and is actually rather common these days, the team here has masterfully crafted their menu with dishes you won’t find anywhere else.

Our appetizer took some time to fight over between Melissa and I, but we finally agreed on their deep fried calamari. This was my first time having it here, and I almost started digging in before Melissa could get some photos off.

I am a creature of habit so I stuck with my favourite dish, which is their Flat Iron Steak Sandwich. I’m a sucker for a good steak and this one features truffle mayo, crispy onions and smoked portabella. Melissa got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which deliciously features brie, lettuce, tomato, arugula pesto, and – of course – bacon.

While I’m not really a food critic, I certainly had no complaints about lunch and need to remind myself to try out something new next time. The host who led us to the table highly recommended the Brome Lake Duck Confit, while our waitress said she absolutely loved the Salt Spring Island Mussels + Fries.

I’d like to thank the good people at LURE for having us out that day, and I will no doubt be seeing them again soon. I will, of course, recommend to our readers to make it out for lunch or dinner here in the next few months and enjoy the sights and tastes. Keep an eye on their website for amazing daily specials on during the 5-6PM time frame, and note that there is always a fantastic selection of beer on tap. The bar is also a great place to catch a Canucks game, so look for me there during those evenings and pull up a seat!
