Whether or not you’re a fan of Trump, his luxury hotel and residences are known worldwide for their extras. Trump properties also usually rely heavily on foreign buyers, something Vancouver is no stranger to. It will be interesting to see because Trump Toronto which has had no shortage of troubles with investors and rental rates.
This building is a planned 63 storey building right across from the already large and in charge Shangri-La Vancouver. This was home to the Ritz-Carlton branded building was going up until the economic woes forced it to halt. The building itself is being developed by the Malaysian company Holborn Group and TA Global BHd, and the right to use the name Trump comes at a cost. Typically rights to his name go anywhere from $5 million and upwards of $15.
What has my interest is that this building was designed by the late Arthur Erickson, one of my favorite Canadian architects. The design of the building is going to set it apart from every other building in this city, and this tower will add another lovely blip on the downtown skyline.
The lower half will be of course dedicated to the luxury hotel with 147 stylish rooms paired with a champagne lounge, signature restaurant, banquet and conference centre. Above the hotel will be 218 luxury condos in which the developers hope get snatched up quicker than its eastern rival.
A Good Looking Fit
The Trump Vancouver residences are set to range from 644 to 2,117 sq ft with the majestic penthouses coming in between 3,500 and 4,400 sq ft. Sales for the luxury condos will begin in October 2013 with project completion expected in the summer of 2016. They state the building will generate 300 full-time job positions upon opening, and it’s expected that visitors to Vancouver will occupy 40,726 room nights per year.
