Upcoming Kelowna Luxury Private Hospital

Okanagan Integrated Medical Centre, Westbank First Nation Chief Robert Louie said construction on the estimated $125,000,000 luxury hospital will take twenty six months. Since the first round of construction got pushed back, the medical centre will most likely open in late 2015 or early 2016.

“All the work is being done to get this medical centre up and running,” said Louie.

“We have a lot of partnerships—close to several hundred millions of dollars at stake here.”

This will be the first of its kind in Canada and while I always thought medical tourism perks were found abroad, it seems they’re going to try here at home.

The WFN will contribute fifteen acres of land for the one hundred bed hospital, which would constitute a fifty percent share in a partnership. The other half of funding would come from investors paying for the construction of the two hundred thousand square foot luxury hospital where rooms would feature HDTV’s, WiFi, stereo music systems, and elegant furnishings.

From their rooms, patients would have jaw dropping views since the building would overlook the lake and the City. The ambitious plan entails ten operating rooms, an “international-calibre chef” and full lab and diagnostic capacity. Phase two would include a spa, gym, hyperbaric chamber, DNA sequencing, stem cell therapies, housing and assisted living for seniors.

What do you folks think of this kind of facility and does it have a place here in BC?
