When a community unites to raise a record-breaking $1.1 million for local healthcare, the credit belongs entirely to the donors, the sponsors, and the tireless dedication of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation.
But every great moment of generosity deserves a setting worthy of the occasion.
Last month, the Spirit Gala 2025 achieved a historic milestone at the Mary Winspear Centre. A matching donor doubled the room’s contributions, pushing the total into seven figures. The backdrop for this incredible outpouring of support? The “Crimson Cabaret,” a world of decadent mystery produced by Aidan Henry and his team at Brink Events.

The goal was not just to decorate a room, but to create an atmosphere that energized the community’s spirit. We sat down with Aidan to discuss the “behind-the-scenes” mechanics of the production, the art of transformation, and how event design serves a serious cause.
In many ways, the design is the spark and the generosity is the flame. Our role is simply to create the conditions where that flame can ignite and grow.
The Role of Atmosphere
LuxuryBC: Aidan, the $1.1 million result is a testament to this community’s incredible generosity. As a producer, you are there to set the stage for that moment. How do you view the relationship between a high-energy theme like ‘Crimson Cabaret’ and the fundraising results? Is the goal simply to create an environment where guests feel energized, allowing the Foundation to do what they do best?
Aidan Henry: Our goal as event producers is to “set the stage”, both literally and figuratively, though the relationship between a theme and the fundraising results runs much deeper than aesthetics or atmosphere. A theme like Crimson Cabaret isn’t chosen just because it’s visually striking, it’s chosen because it creates a sense of anticipation, warmth, and shared experience.
When guests feel immersed, celebrated, and connected to one another, they’re more open, more engaged, and ultimately more receptive to the mission being presented. The key is balance, though. The theme must never overshadow the cause. It should serve as an emotional amplifier: supporting the Foundation’s message, not competing with it.

In many ways, the design is the spark and the generosity is the flame. Our role is simply to create the conditions where that flame can ignite and grow. And when a community responds the way this one did, with $1.1 million raised, it’s a powerful reminder of what can happen when purpose and experience work in harmony.
The Transformation Challenge
LuxuryBC: The Mary Winspear Centre is a beloved community hub, but it’s not naturally a ‘smoky cabaret.’ Transforming a venue of that size requires a massive team effort. From a production standpoint, what was the most critical design element that helped transport guests into the theme?
Aidan Henry: Transforming the Mary Winspear Centre into a smoky cabaret was all about creating atmosphere, and the most critical design element for achieving that was mood lighting layered with textured décor, most notably table linen and draping.

The venue is naturally bright and open, so we focused on reshaping it through deep, sultry lighting palettes and focal points that instantly shifted the tone from “community centre” to “intimate cabaret.” From there, other design elements reinforced the immersion: chairs, tablescapes, centerpieces, furniture, candles, and more. Truly though, the lighting, draping, and linens were the stars of the show and helped transform the room and transport guests into the world of “Crimson Cabaret”.

Balancing “Fun” and “Mission”
LuxuryBC: The ‘Crimson Cabaret’ is a bold, fun theme, but the cause, enhancing surgical services, is deeply serious. How do you collaborate with the Foundation to ensure the night feels like a celebration without losing sight of the emotional reason everyone is in the room?
Aidan Henry: We work closely with the Foundation to strike a balance where the theme elevates the evening without overwhelming its purpose. The bold aesthetic created energy and excitement, but we were intentional about staying focused on the stories and impact. It’s a collaborative process of designing celebration around the cause, not over it, ensuring guests feel the joy of the experience while remaining deeply connected to the meaningful, emotional reason they’re there.

Orchestrating the Perfect Moment
LuxuryBC: Productions of this scale are never a solo act, and you’re known to work alongside great local partners. Was there a particular moment during the night where you felt the food, the music, and the design really clicked together to create that perfect ‘Cabaret’ experience?
Aidan Henry: Definitely. For the opening reception, we had a grand piano and a cabaret-style singer, Edie Daponte. The placement of this vignette, as well as the lighting, created this incredibly sultry moment that encapsulated all things “Crimson Cabaret”. Here’s a shot our photographer snapped that captured this moment perfectly.

The Future Vision
LuxuryBC: Now that the dust has settled on such a successful night, does it inspire you to try new creative concepts? As you look toward 2026, are there any ‘dream themes’ or design concepts you’re hoping to bring to life in Victoria?
Aidan Henry: Absolutely. Nights like this always spark new creative momentum. When a community embraces a theme as fully as they did Crimson Cabaret, it opens the door to exploring even bolder, more immersive ideas for future galas.
As we look toward 2026, I’m excited by concepts that blend refinement with a sense of discovery. I don’t want to reveal any potential theme ideas or concepts, as I’d rather these be a surprise for guests and followers. That said, these “dream themes” will push the boundaries of what a gala experience can be in Victoria while still staying rooted in emotion, storytelling, and purpose.
